Because NJ Legislature requires public school districts to provide designated instruction and services to nonpublic schools, the SCESC provides speech and language therapy, home instruction, basic skills (compensatory) and supplementary instruction, ESL (English as a Second Language) and Child Study Team evaluations and consultations as well as the recordkeeping and requirements of the NJ Department of Education for these services. The SCESC administers the Chapter 226 Nonpublic Nursing program for nonpublic schools, along with the Nonpublic Technology Aid and Textbook Purchasing programs. Substitute nursing services are also offered.

As-needed, part-time instructional and support services including speech correction, examination and classification by child study teams, home instruction, basic skills classes, supplementary instruction, ESL teachers and student assistance counselors are available to public school districts.
